Moving to Logan for a Job at Utah State? Here's Where to Look

by Lisa Barr

Landed a faculty or staff position at Utah State University? Congratulations, and welcome to Cache Valley. One of the first big questions is where to live. The good news: the valley offers a lot of variety within a short drive of campus.

Logan: close to everything

Living in Logan puts you near campus, downtown restaurants and Logan Canyon. The neighborhoods around USU have established mid-century homes with mature trees, and many people walk or bike to work. Downtown and the Island area offer older homes with character.

North Logan and Hyde Park: room to spread out

Just north of campus, these communities offer newer subdivisions, larger lots and a quieter feel, with an easy commute to USU.

Providence and River Heights: bench views

South and east of Logan, these towns sit up on the bench with mountain views and a tight-knit, family-friendly vibe. They're popular with buyers who want space but still want to be minutes from campus.

Nibley, Hyrum and Smithfield: more house for the money

If you want newer construction or a bigger home on your budget, look a little farther out. Nibley has seen lots of new construction, while Hyrum and Smithfield offer more of a small-town feel. Some areas outside Logan city limits may even qualify for USDA zero-down financing.

Tips for relocating buyers

  • Tour virtually first. I can walk you through homes by video before you make the trip.
  • Time your move. Many USU hires start in August, so start your search in spring.
  • Get pre-approved early. It makes long-distance offers much stronger.
  • Think about winter. Commute routes, snow removal and garage space matter more here than you'd expect.

I help faculty and staff relocate to Cache Valley without the guesswork. Reach out for a free neighborhood consultation and let's find your new home base.
